General Motors the manufacturer of the ever-popular ATV, the Hummer, has decided to join the mobile fray with their Hummer HT1car fashion phone. The Hummer phone is designed by French design company Mode labs. The HT1 car fashion phone has features that include GPRS connectivity with a 2.2-inch, 260k color TFT touch screen. It also has a 2 megapixel camera with an internal memory of 256MB and expansion capability via micro SD.
Hummer is not the first car maker to introduce branded high-tech gadgets to the market. Ferrari and Porsche have released laptops, mobiles, and even navigation systems under their name. SunCom S5150 is also a very hot item.
The HT1 was designed by French firm Mode Labs to reflect Hummer's military-like style and comes in colors matching the company's most famous vehicles, including a camouflaged khaki green, sable (dark silver), and bright yellow. Despite its utilitarian looks, however, the slider handset also sports media-friendly luxuries, including a 2-megapixel camera, an FM radio, and a micro SD slot for media storage. A 256MB card provides room for a handful of media without needing a replacement.
After the first Hummer phone HT1 was a success (more than 50,000 phones were sold) and Mode Labs is now launching the second Hummer phone. Unlike the original device which had the slider form factor, the HT2 is a candy bar-shaped device, thus it targets those that like the Hummer brand but dislike sliders. While reflecting the spirit of the brand, the new mobile is fully multimedia and can be used in any situation. The HT2 has up to 500 hours of autonomy in stand-by mode, is quad-band (enabling network access in more than 200 countries) and features Dual-SIM (two lines in a single mobile), a built-in modem, e-mail and a webcam.
