Over my 14 years, I have had many eccentric obsessions. Watches, AFL, World War II, USA state capitals, to name a few. My current fixation, from which I first suffered aged 10, is cars. This is agonising because I'm not allowed to drive for another four years, which to me is 4 million years.

The start of the 2010 Paris Motor Show is just 3 days away for the general public but starting tomorrow, we can expect a flood of information as the media begins their three-day exclusive viewing of the best and brightest of the show. Along with the teasers, some companies have left fewer questions as to what they are bringing out for the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Land Rover will be showing off their new 2- and 4-door Evoque models and Chevrolet will be showing off their Europe-only Captiva, but don't expect the SUV/crossover spread to be as big as it is for the US market.

From the green car segment there should be an impressive spread. The new Spyker-owned Saab is planning to bring out their ePower EV prototype " an electric station wagon. Korean automakers Kia and Hyundai will show off (very) small cars, as Kia will have their new Pop electric car and Hyundai will feature the ix20. BMW will show off the new Mini Scooter E Concept, the first two wheeled model from the MINI brand. Audi and Peugeot will show off cars that combine the green movement with the supercar segment as the Audi eTron Spyder and Peugeot EX1 electric roadster each make their world debut in Paris.

There will be a fair spread of new family-movers and fuel efficient green cars but the limelight will belong to the high end performance luxury models that dominate the European motoring scene, with a special emphasis on topless performance. Aston Martin will be offering up their new V8 Vantage N420 Roadster, Ferrari will introduce the 599 SA Aperta, and Infiniti will feature the new IPL G Convertible.

Lamborghini Sports Car | Vince Neil Gets New Court Date In Vegas DUI Case

LAS VEGAS †A Las Vegas judge set a new court date for Motley Crue singer Vince Neil on misdemeanor drunken driving and speeding charges.

Lawyers for the 49-year-old rocker appeared on his behalf Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court. No plea was entered.

A clerk says Judge Joe M. Bonaventure set an Oct. 11 status check for the case.

A court document alleges Neil had a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent, the state's legal limit for drivers, and was driving his Lamborghini sports car 60 mph in a 45 mph zone when he was stopped June 27 near the Las Vegas Strip.

Neil is front man for the heavy metal band with hits like "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood." He and his fourth wife live in Las Vegas.

Ferrari Sports Car | Drug Dealer's Wheels Go Under The Hammer

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) yesterday auctioned 14 luxury cars valued at more than 80 million baht, attracting wealthy motoring enthusiasts and second-hand car dealers.

The cars were confiscated from a suspected drug network led by Usman Salaemaeng, an alleged major trafficker said to be active in the insurgency-plagued southern border province of Narathiwat. Mr Usman is still at large abroad.

The suspected drug network allegedly laundered drug money through running a used car dealership on Rama IX Road, operated by Humdam Salaemaeng, a younger brother of Mr Usman.

The famed marques under the hammer included a Ferrari sports car with an auction price starting at 15 million baht, a Lamborghini (2 million baht), an Aston Martin (10 million baht), a Porsche Cayenne (10 million baht) and many other expensive vehicles.

Justice Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, who presided over the opening of the auction, said the ONCB has so far seized 1,804 cars from drug dealers and put them up for auction, fetching about 512 million baht.

A total of 294 million baht had been returned to car finance companies and 218 million baht had been contributed to a drug-suppression fund run by the ONCB.

The remaining 647 cars that have not been auctioned will be put at the service of government agencies, Mr Pirapan said.

He said Mr Usman was still on the run from justice and remained active in the drug trade overseas.

Frankly I love watching car programs like Top Gear and Fifth Gear and dream of driving those exquisite super cars hither and thither up and down the roads of Ireland. Just kidding, never met him but then again I could have as you see he always has his helmet on to protect his identity. Oh leprechauns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow; wink wink!

So come on boys suspend your monopoly and welcome a lady to your team. Just think if Fifth Gear can do it successfully then you can too and watch your female audiences topple the charts of attentiveness. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Sales of some exotic luxury automobiles have revved up this year as affluent Americans indulge more freely in these pricey pleasures.

In the recession, mounting concern over stock portfolios and feelings of guilt about extravagant buys caused some wealthy consumers to rein in conspicuous sending.

It didn't feel right buying a $300,000 Rolls-Royce when people were being foreclosed out of their homes or were losing jobs, said Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends at TrueCar.com , a Santa Monica, Calif.-based new-car-pricing website.

With the economy improving, albeit slowly, the well-heeled are splurging again.

Nationwide, Toprak said, combined new-car sales for the top six exotic luxury brands have grown 16 percent in the first seven months of 2010, compared with the same period last year. That's 3,065 exotic autos sold by Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Maybach and Rolls-Royce through July vs. 2,650 in 2009.

"It's not a full recovery, but certainly things are improving," he said.

Exotic-car dealers are reaping the benefits of the trend.

"Sales are definitely stronger this year," said Garrett Hayim, president of Ferrari-Maserati of Fort Lauderdale.

Ferraris are produced in such limited quantities that sales of these upper-echelon vehicles are less "swayed by the changes in the economy," Hayim said.

Still, the average selling price for some pre-owned Ferraris did take a dive in late 2008 - as much as 40 percent for some models - but has since rebounded. The price drop, however, lured new customers to the brand who seized the opportunity to snag a Ferrari at relatively cheaper prices, Hayim said.

Most of Hayim's pre-owned exotic cars sell within 30 days, but there's a waiting list for new Ferraris. He said it's about five years for the 458 Italia, Ferrari's "latest and greatest," a two-seater with a top speed of 202 miles per hour and several new design, aerodynamic and engine upgrades.

Because they aren't mass-produced, exotic luxury cars generally cost more than mainstream premium brands. They tend to have rare or signature design and engineering elements that assembly-line vehicles lack.

Nationwide, exotic-car models will represent about 9 percent of all new-car models on sale in 2010, which is up from 4.6 percent in 2001, according to Edmunds.com .

At Ferrari-Maserati of Palm Beach, Ferrari sales have remained relatively unchanged in the downturn, general sales manager Tom Clinton said.

"The Ferrari world is still the Ferrari world, and people who buy Ferraris will always buy them," he said.

Clinton said Maserati sales had been slower, but started picking up recently. The price tag for a new Maserati is typically $110,000 to $150,000.

Veteran auto dealer Craig Zinn said activity has increased recently at his Spyker dealerships in Florida on word of the new C8 Aileron. The Dutch-minted sports car is priced about $240,000, but won't be available until later this year, which is inhibiting his ability to meet demand, Zinn said.

Although pent-up demand has brought some affluents back into the driver's seats of these swanky wheels, some analysts remain cautious about future sales.

"It's unlikely we'll see extremely robust exotic-car sales until consumer confidence, the job market and stock indexes improve," TrueCar's Toprak said.

The CERV in CERV III stood for "Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle" and that is exactly what the 1990 Corvette CERV III concept car proved to be. Never before had so much gone into one test vehicle and as GM had done in the past with concept Vettes, this prototype pushed all known limits.

The CERV III made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in 1990 and unlike many other concepts that GM had produced over the years, the CREV III was fully functional and didn't just suggest innovation, but rather oozed it. From the outside to the inside, this Corvette was an unreal Corvette.

The engine was a 5.7 V-8 Lotus engineered prototype that would eventually go into all ZR1 production Vettes. The engine was mounted on the chassis in a sideways manner and the transaxle was a six speed automatic. The engine was paired with twin turbos and the end result was a concept Corvette that would push out 650 horse power.

The CERV III was made all-wheel drive and the computer would determine how much torque went to the front and the rear of the vehicle. To stop this speed demon the engineers at GM used dual disc brakes on all four corners to give the concept Corvette amazing stopping power. However with the addition of the dual disc brakes, the addition of unwanted weight was felt as well.

To compensate for added weight, the engineers at GM gave the CERV III an all new body composition. The body itself was made up of a mixture of carbon fiber, Nomex, Kevlar, and an aluminum honeycomb. The backbone of the CERV III was comprised of only carbon fiber and weighed in at a scant 38 pounds.

The wheels of the CERV III were cast magnesium and the suspension was made "active." That meant that the CERV III was designed so that it would stay flat at all times even in a sharp turn. This was accomplished with the computer automatically sensing and adjusting to even the slightest of bumps.

Even the styling of the CERV III was high class. To compliment the fact that it had a very low drag coefficient, the CERV III featured Lamborghini-style doors. Everything about the CERV III was elegant and the car went over extremely well with Corvette lovers and critics alike. However maybe due to the fact that the car was a mid-engine design or maybe due to the fact that it would have cost too much to produce, the CERV III never made it to more than concept status.

The CERV III did show though that the minds of GM were in fact churning and when the next Corvette did come out it would be special. The Corvette faithful would have to wait until 1997 to get their C5 wish, but it would not disappoint. Though it looked nothing like the CERV III it was a success nonetheless.

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) yesterday auctioned 14 luxury cars valued at more than 80 million baht, attracting wealthy motoring enthusiasts and second-hand car dealers.

The cars were confiscated from a suspected drug network led by Usman Salaemaeng, an alleged major trafficker said to be active in the insurgency-plagued southern border province of Narathiwat. Mr Usman is still at large abroad.

The suspected drug network allegedly laundered drug money through running a used car dealership on Rama IX Road, operated by Humdam Salaemaeng, a younger brother of Mr Usman.

The famed marques under the hammer included a Ferrari sports car with an auction price starting at 15 million baht, a Lamborghini (2 million baht), an Aston Martin (10 million baht), a Porsche Cayenne (10 million baht) and many other expensive vehicles.

Justice Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, who presided over the opening of the auction, said the ONCB has so far seized 1,804 cars from drug dealers and put them up for auction, fetching about 512 million baht.

A total of 294 million baht had been returned to car finance companies and 218 million baht had been contributed to a drug-suppression fund run by the ONCB.

The remaining 647 cars that have not been auctioned will be put at the service of government agencies, Mr Pirapan said.

He said Mr Usman was still on the run from justice and remained active in the drug trade overseas.

Lamborghini Sports Car | Woman Accuses Vince Neil Of Grabbing Her In Vegas

A woman has lodged a complaint alleging Motley Crue singer Vince Neil grabbed her arms in an elevator at the Las Vegas Hilton, police said Thursday.

Neil, 49, wasn't arrested after police took statements Sunday from the woman and two other people regarding the misdemeanor battery complaint, Las Vegas police Officer Barbara Morgan said.

The investigation remained open.

Neil's lawyer David Chesnoff was unavailable for immediate comment.

There was no indication Neil knew the woman, and she didn't report being physically injured, Morgan said.

Neil owns tattoo shops and bars in Las Vegas, including a cantina at the Hilton.

Neil is due in court Sept. 27 on separate misdemeanor drunken driving and speeding charges. He has not yet entered a plea.

He is accused of driving his Lamborghini sports car 60 mph in a 45 mph zone before being stopped June 27 near the Las Vegas Strip.

A court document alleges he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent, the state's legal limit for drivers.
